In the coming few years Batam will have a Batam Botanical Garden. This botanical garden is a collaboration between the Government of Batam with plant conservation center of Bogor Botanical Gardens and Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI).
Quoted from Batampos.co.id, Batam Botanical Garden will occupy an area of 85.667 hectares in the Village Sambau, District Nongsa. Precisely at the edge of Jalan Hang Lekiu Km 4, Nongsa. Approximately 10 kilometers from Hang Nadim International Airport Batam and 15 kilometers from Batam Centre.
Batam Botanical Garden will be in the middle of the resort area and nature Nongsa. Ie in between Tering Bay Golf and Country Club, Palm Springs Golf and Beach Resort, Batam View Resort, Turi Beach Resort, also Nongsa Point Marina.
Based on the master plan is made, the Batam Botanical Garden design is made lengthwise , this area will be divided into six zones based on the type of activities. Namely, two zone receiver or gateway, a recreation zone and collection, the office zone, a zone of low intensity management collection, and a jungle zone. There are five collections of plants that will be present in this botanical garden. The first is a collection of plants from the land of Sunda. Second, the typical vegetation Wallacea. Furthermore, is a collection of plants Papua New Guinea, Oceania, and other collections of the world.
Currently the only green open space which received recognition from the Ministry of Environment, of green open space in Batam, just Dataran Engku Putri. Batam is currently still lacks green space so that with the Batam Botanical Garden will add to the green open spaces of multi function. Batam Botanical Garden is a national project file that is also aimed at boosting tourist arrivals.
